A nice 6 hour beer tasting (and food eating) journey begins with a visit to Western Pacific Restaurant and Brewery, (also known as the “depot”) a historical establishment that features a great menu as well as six great hand crafted beers and ales. Here we have Belden Golden Ale, Pulga Pale Ale, Keddie Red, Chilcoot IPA, 844″ Oatmeal Stout, and Scotch Ale. This establishment is unfortunately closed on Sundays, but none of these breweries require reservations.
Then to the recently opened Feather Falls Casino brewery, featuring 9 brews, including: Soaring Eagle, a light pilsner; Dancing Trees, a hefeweizen; Coyote Spirit, an amber ale; Feather Falls, an apricot wheat ale; Golden Feather Extra Pale, a light, gold ale; Mooretown Pale Ale, a full-bodied American pale; Squirrel Tail, a brown ale; Naughty Native, a bold India pale ale; and Blackjack Brew, a creamy stout ale.
Then to the pride of Chico, Sierra Nevada. First, the beers that are in constant production: Pale Ale, Porter, Stout, Kellerweis, Torpedo Extra IPA, and Old Chico Brand Crystal Wheat. Try the “sampler”! Other beers that are seasonal include Draught Style Pale, Blonde ale, Earth Day Extra Pale Ale, Kolsch, Brown Ale, Bigfoot (watch out!), Southern Hemisphere Harvest, and Summerfest. Also, featured brews by the abbey of New Clairvaux Vinyards are available, as well as interesting new concoctions formed by the Beer Camp participants once or twice a month. Brewery tours are M-Th, 2:30 and 4pm; Fri 1pm, 2:30 and 4pm; Weekends noon, 1, 2, 3, and 4pm.
Notes A local brew tour is based on a 6 hour day, anywhere from noon to 6pm and 4-10pm. Trips are optimal for up to a dozen people. A 6 hour tour for a flat $300 doesn’t include your beer and food. A tailgate ice chest is available by request, at no extra charge. Sorry, no open containers in the van, only on the full size coach with on board lavatory.
